Dear Nazneen,

As per Ustad Saheb's testimony, in today's time, the Ruvan of a normal Parsi takes between 200 to 700 years to take birth again. The process at the beginning of Chinvat takes 57 years, but there are many more stations to cover and lessons to learn for the soul before it can take rebirth.

The chapter on Gunah and its retribution is difficult to understand and comprehend. There are four types of Gunah, not three. The Margarzan category is those whose retribution can only happen in a next birth. However, the process of Chinvat is only ONE of the processes to take care of the Gunah. The various obligations which are created by our interaction with other individuals, animals, plants and minerals can be finished off either in the current life (if we are lucky and circumstances arrange themselves in that manner) or are carried forward to the next life. Exactly how and in what manner each Gunah is compensated is a matter of spiritual eyesight and meditation and cannot be put into words. To see with the physical eyes and understand with our limited brain the entire working of the Cosmos is quite impossible. When our spiritual faculties are developed after years of Tarikats, Mantras and a spiritual Master, then perhaps a glimpse can be had of this working. till then, we must indulge in word play!

Best regards,
Ervad Marzban J. Hathiram

Dear Eric,

Meher Patet is the practice of living Parsis to attempt to speak the truth at all times (Meher=truth). When the attempt to speak the truth fails, a Parsi is enjoined to offer Patet (repentance) for the same.

Sarosh Patet refers to the praying of the Sarosh Yasht Vadi in the Aiwisruthrem Gah, taking the name of the deceased in the Nirang, and then praying the Ruvan ni Patet.

Dear Ervad Saheb,

From the details explained above,
Does it mean that the pay back of mis deeds of lifetime happens in Chinvat for a minimum 57 years and hence the rebirth of that soul will not happen till then ?

Further, I had read in earlier article of yours (sorry but I can not recollect the name) in which you had mentioned mis deeds are of three types & based on it where & how they have to be repaid. One of which was grave enough to be paid back in next birth. Hence does it mean that the soul pays back only for other two types of misdeeds in Chinvat?

Would be highly obliged if you can solve these queries.
Thank you!

Dear Eric,

Very special attention must be paid to any dream in which a deceased relative appears. Always try to remember the state of the person in the dream as well as the surroundings. Did the person appear well dressed or were the clothes torn or perhaps was the person even naked? Also the vista around the person - was it pleasant or not? Based on these remembrances one can come to a conclusion regarding the state of the Urvan of the deceased and appropriate steps can be taken in consultation with a knowledgeable priest.

Praying the Sarosh and Patet for the deceased is the best gift a living can give to his departed relatives and should be made a regular habit.

Best regards,

Manvant Marzbanji,

At times we get dreams of our departed family members. Why does that happen? What all should be done in those circumstances? Can we pray Patet-e-Ruvan for such departed memebers or close Zarthosthi friends?

Thank you!
